Praxis EMR clients are already e-prescribing. Late last week, John Davis, M.D. became the first Praxis user to send an e-prescription to a pharmacy.
All told, Dr. Davis sent six e-prescriptions to both a local pharmacy member of the Alabama Independent Drugstore Association and to the nearby branch of a large, national chain pharmacy. Dr. Davis reports that Praxis EMR's e-Rx feature works equally well with both the fax and the electronic e-RX modules at the pharmacies.
"Too much of medicine is bureaucratic drudgery," said Dr. Davis, "but e-prescribing with Praxis is simple, straight-forward, easy and fun. I was sending prescriptions out three at a time."
Those who have submitted payment for the Surescripts Network Integration Service can expect to have the single-user version of Praxis EMR v5 installed within a month of their payment date, and to begin e-prescribing right away. If you haven't submitted payment for the Surescripts Network Integration Service (required in order to access the Surescripts Network with Praxis EMR v5), please complete this form and fax it back to us at your earliest convenience.
An e-Rx manual and a video tutorial are currently being edited and will be made available next week. Should you encounter any difficulties as you begin to e-prescribe, do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support Department. The entire staff has been briefed about Praxis EMR v5's e-Rx functionality and is prepared to field any questions you may have. Under Medicare's E-Prescribing Program, medical professionals who provide services under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule must report the use of e-prescribing technology for 10 patient encounters before June 30.
"I anticipate fulfilling Medicare's e-prescribing requirements within two days," said Dr. Davis.
