Why the Cloud?

Cloud hosting introduces a new level of flexibility to your practice. You have 24-hour access to your practice from anywhere in the world, on all of the devices you are most comfortable with. Every member of your staff can share information in real time, even when working at different sites.

All of your data and software is stored on servers at a remote location, allowing you to avoid upfront infrastructure costs and on-the-ground maintenance. What's more, the remote server can handle new workstations and new users without any loss of speed. Cloud hosting is ideal for practices with multiple locations, large clinics with many users, and physicians who travel often.

What is Cloud computing?

Cloud computing is the use of computing resources (hardware and software) that are delivered over a network (typically the internet). The name comes from the cloud-shaped symbol that is commonly used to represent this infrastructure in system diagrams. Cloud computing entrusts a user's data, software, and computation to specialized remote third parties, meaning that the end user need not worry about local maintenance, support, or upgrades.

How does it work?

Connecting to the cloud is like accessing a virtual machine that holds your Praxis database. Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or RemoteApp programs provide users with a graphic interface to another computer via the internet. Remote Desktop Protocol is developed by Microsoft, but is compatible with Apple products as well.

What about my billing and interfaces?

Your laboratory and billing interfaces run just as smoothly on the cloud. Printing and all other interfaces are also seamless.

Is cloud hosting secure?

Cloud hosting is just as safe as a server setup. Praxis cloud hosting is completely HIPAA-compliant: all information sent through the web is encrypted to protect the privacy or your patients and your practice. The remote server maintains all of the security measures your clinic currently uses, and also runs automatic backups. In short, the Praxis Cloud combines all of your current security measures with regular server maintenance and backups to make data even more secure.

We do recommend that you utilize a hardwired connection, rather than a wireless connection, to connect to the cloud in your clinic. This will ensure that an optimal connection at all times.
